MIAMI: Miami's Interactive App for Macroeconomic Insights

Welcome!

Overview

This app is intended to provide users with helpful interactive visualizations for microeconomics data. By using this app, users can compare variables of interest between the years. Users can also compare information from different data sources and can look at specific categories of variables. For example, a user can choose to focus solely variables associated with GDP or Trade or a combination of both types of variables. There are also different sections that allow users to choose two different variables from all the possible variables and compare the values from different countries at specific times. Users also are given a table on every tab to map all the variables listed in each tab to the original name from the source. This table also includes the category for each variable.

Data Sources

Data was collected from World Bank, Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED), Current Population Surveys (CPS), and from the Census Bureau.

Countries

This tab focuses on 14 different countries. The countries are associated with specific colors throughout the entire app. The key can be observed below.

Variables

Variables from the World Bank data:

For the Visualizations from the World Bank data, there is an option to view the plots indexed based on the smallest year all the countries had in common for each variable.

Variables from the Census data:

For the Visualizations from the Census data, there is no option to view the plots indexed based on the smallest year all the countries had in common for each variable because the data all starts from the same date.

Variables

Variables from the FRED data:

For the Visualizations from the FRED data, there is an option to view the plots indexed based on the smallest year all the countries had in common for each variable.

Variables from the CPS data:

For the Visualizations from the CPS data, there is an option to view the plots indexed based on the smallest year all the countries had in common for each variable.
